Code of Conduct

The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm, scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Passaic County Technical Institute. PCTI National Honor Society follows the National Honor Society and its constitution.

Membership in our chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by Faculty Council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

Membership may be open to qualified juniors and seniors. To be eligible for membership, the candidate must have a cumulative scholastic average of 3.8 or better and have demonstrated 10 hours of community service prior to the start of the current school year. In addition, candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

In order to properly make this evaluation, the Chapter requires the candidate to complete an application and to submit a personal assessment of their qualifications in essay form. In addition, three recommendations will be required; one from an academic teacher, one from a school or civic community member, and the last will be the choice of the candidate.

The primary considerations used for the selection process are:

  • Service: Service is generally considered to be those actions undertaken by the student, which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation to the individual performing the service. In considering service, the contributions this candidate has made to the school, classmates, and community will be reviewed. A mandatory ten hours of community service are expected to be completed prior to applying to PCTI National Honor Society and an additional fifteen hours of service are to be completed yearly.
  • Leadership: Leadership will be considered in terms of the offices a student has held in school or community organizations, as well as effective participation in any co-curricular activities offered at Passaic County Technical Institute.
  • Character: Character is probably the most difficult to define. Our chapter selection process will seek a candidate of character that demonstrates the following six qualities: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

Upon criteria completion the Faculty Council will make final determinations and notify candidates of their acceptance into the National Honor Society. A written notification to the candidate and their parents will include an invitation to the annual induction ceremony.

PCTI National Honor Society members are the leaders of our school.
