Rosalin Mendez is a standout student in the Academy of Criminal Justice at PCTI, where she has fully embraced a hands-on learning environment that first drew her to the program. “When I was looking through PCTI’s catalog, I noticed how hands-on it was, which really interested me,” she shared. That early interest has translated into consistent dedication and strong academic performance, reflected in her impressive 4.4 GPA.

Being named Student of the Month is a recognition Rosalin takes pride in. “It’s an honor to be named Student of the Month. It feels great to be recognized for all the hard work I’ve put in, both academically and in other areas of my life at PCTI,” she said. Her commitment extends well beyond the classroom.

Rosalin is an active member of the PCTI community, competing on both the girls varsity tennis team and the varsity fencing team, where she has served as a captain for two years. In addition to athletics, she is involved in several academic organizations, including the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, and the Gifted and Talented Program, demonstrating a well-rounded and driven approach to her high school experience.

Outside of her academic and athletic commitments, Rosalin has achieved an exciting milestone, performing at Carnegie Hall this past February, a memorable accomplishment that reflects both her talent and discipline.

Looking ahead, Rosalin plans to pursue a four-year degree in biology on a pre-med track, with the goal of continuing her education to earn a master’s degree and ultimately become a doctor. Her ambition and focus position her well for success in the medical field.

When offering advice to others, Rosalin emphasizes the importance of getting involved early. “Find a sport or club you enjoy and stick with it, you’ll meet people who will help you grow and develop as a person,” she said, encouraging students to make the most of their time at PCTI.

Reflecting on her journey, Rosalin credits PCTI with helping her grow both academically and personally. “It has helped prepare me for life beyond high school while also helping me grow as a person. I’ve met people who have supported me and helped me mature into the individual I am today,” she shared.

Benjamin Irizarry is a driven student in the Academy of Computer Science at PCTI STEM, where his interest in the field began at a young age. Inspired by his father’s work in a computer science-related career, Ben developed an early curiosity that eventually turned into a clear academic path. “Seeing that inspired me, and I wanted to follow in his footsteps, which ultimately led me here,” he shared. That motivation is reflected in his outstanding 4.5 GPA and commitment to excellence.

Earning Student of the Month holds special meaning for Ben. “As a freshman, I would always see the posters of students on the board and think about how much work it must have taken to get there. Now, seeing myself up there feels rewarding and shows that my hard work has paid off,” he said. He hopes his achievement can serve as inspiration for other students, just as he was once inspired.

Ben has been actively involved in athletics throughout his time at PCTI, playing soccer all four years and competing on the varsity team for two. Alongside his athletic commitments, he is a member of the National Honor Society, where he serves on the executive board, and is also involved in the World Language Honor Society and additional school clubs. Outside of school, Ben enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, and recently has taken up pickleball. He also developed a passion for cooking, a skill he takes pride in.

Looking ahead, Ben plans to attend either Cornell or Northeastern University, where he intends to study Computer Science and Economics. His academic focus and well-rounded involvement position him strongly for future success.

When offering advice, Ben encourages students to stay focused on their own path. “Do your best and don’t worry about what others are doing. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for opportunities because the worst someone can say is no,” he said, emphasizing confidence and initiative.

Reflecting on his experience, Ben credits PCTI STEM with helping him build essential life skills. “It’s really helped me develop strong time management skills and taught me how to prioritize my responsibilities while still enjoying my free time,” he explained.

Congratulations, Ben! Your discipline, leadership, and commitment to growth continue to set a strong example for the PCTI STEM community.
