PCTI Video Production juniors made their mark in a big way after their documentary, Dem Bulldogs, earned first place in The Record High’s Rock Report Sports Feature competition. As part of this recognition, juniors Matthew Olaya, Malik Zeidan, Saivien Stewart, and Elian Aguirre were awarded a memorable behind-the-scenes experience at a New Jersey Devils game during Kids Weekend.
Thanks to Mark Conklin, Vice President of Prudential Center’s The Record High program, the students received tickets to see their work showcased on the big screen and were given the opportunity to arrive early for an exclusive job shadow experience. There, they met Devils radio sports broadcaster Matt Loughlin, who walked them through his pre-production setup and gave them insight into what it takes to deliver play-by-play coverage at the professional level.
The students also had the chance to film and interview Loughlin about his career in sports broadcasting, gaining valuable perspective on building a path in sports media and telling stories in a fast-paced environment. More than just a special recognition, the experience gave students a meaningful look at how career and technical education can open doors to real-world learning in high-pressure professional settings. They then watched as their video interview aired on the arena’s Jumbotron, giving their storytelling a moment in front of a packed crowd and turning the day into an unforgettable CTE job shadow experience.
