PCTVS GRADUATES 1,000+ IN RECORD-SETTING CELEBRATION
Three ceremonies across two days mark a milestone for NJ’s largest high school.
Wayne, NJ – Passaic County Technical-Vocational Schools (PCTVS) proudly honored the Class of 2025 during two days of graduation ceremonies held on June 24 and June 25, 2025. More than 1,000 students walked across the stage, marking the culmination of a journey defined by growth, perseverance, and purpose.
The celebration began Tuesday evening with the commencement of 256 seniors from the acclaimed PCTI STEM Academy, which includes the Computer Science, Engineering, and Biomedical and Life Sciences Academies. The STEM Academy, ranked in the top 5% of all high schools in New Jersey and proudly #1 in Passaic County, has long been recognized for its academic excellence and commitment to innovation. These students spent four years immersed in advanced, hands-on curriculum, preparing them for leadership in science, technology, medicine, and engineering.
On Wednesday, the district celebrated 825 graduates from 13 career and technical education programs within the Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) campus. These programs span a wide range of industries, including Health and Medical Sciences, Criminal Justice, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Performing Arts, Applied Engineering, Business Careers, Finance, Education & Human Services, Automotive Technology, Cosmetology & Barbering, Communication Arts, and Information Technology. PCTI is the largest high school in New Jersey and stands out for its exceptional diversity both in student population and in the breadth of academic and career and technical education (CTE) programs offered. Its ranking among the top 8% of all high schools in the state, and as one of the top schools in Passaic County, is a particularly noteworthy distinction. PCTI embraces an “ethic of excellence” and continues to distinguish itself as a leader in preparing students for college, careers, and meaningful contributions to their communities.
After much consideration, and in collaboration with the Office of Emergency Management and the New Jersey Department of Health, district administrators made the decision to hold the ceremony outside to provide the most meaningful and impactful experience for students. Given the forecasted heat, the district implemented an “outdoor hybrid option” that included three outdoor ceremonies, along with indoor accommodations for those needing relief from high temperatures. Based on weather forecasts, all three ceremonies utilized a delayed start to allow temperatures to drop. Turf fields were watered down to reduce surface temperatures. A large outdoor cooling station was on site with shade from the sun, misting stations, jet fans, water, ice, etc. The air conditioned PCT Athletic Center offered further relief from the heat with seating and large display screens for anyone who preferred to watch the ceremony indoors via livestream.
The PCTVS graduation ceremonies drew thousands of attendees, including proud family members, friends, and district staff. Distinguished guests in attendance included members of the PCTVS Board of Education, the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners Rodney De Vore and Orlando Cruz, Mathew P. Jordan Esq., County Administrator as well as local dignitaries, all of whom joined in honoring the graduating Class of 2025.
“These ceremonies are not only a celebration of academic milestones, but they are also a tribute to the spirit and determination of each and every student,” said John Maiello, Chief School Administrator of PCTVS. “The Class of 2025 has shown extraordinary resilience and drive. They leave us not only with diplomas, but with a foundation that will carry them far into the future.”
Graduates from the Class of 2025 are set to pursue a range of ambitious next steps. Some will attend world-renowned institutions such as Harvard, Princeton, and MIT; others will fulfill a commitment to public service by joining the military. Many will enter the workforce directly, applying the technical skills and industry certifications developed through years of dedicated study in their chosen fields.
The Class of 2025 now joins a thriving and accomplished network of PCTVS alumni who are shaping industries, communities, and institutions across the country. Their accomplishments are a source of pride for the district and a powerful testament to the value of career and technical education in preparing students for lifelong success.
