PCTI ProStart Students are Proclaimed State Champions!

Passaic County Technical Institute’s (PCTI) School of Culinary Arts secured first and second place wins at the ProStart State Competition. Two teams represented PCTI: the “Management Team” and “Culinary Team”. The Management Team won first place at the event, earning them the title of State Champions! The students competed in a Shark Tank style competition against other schools from across the state. Student teams were challenged to develop a restaurant business plan including the menu, marketing strategies and safety regulations for the launch and operation of a commercial restaurant. As a result of their victory, team members have been invited to Washington, D.C. in May to represent New Jersey for the 20th Annual National ProStart Invitational.

Additionally, PCTI’s Culinary Team won second place at the ProStart State Competition after extensively preparing for six months. PCTI’s team competed against nine teams from schools across New Jersey and were given one hour to prepare an upscale 3-course meal without the use of electricity or running water. PCTI’s team created delicious dishes including a pan seared crab cake appetizer, a brioche crusted halibut entrée, and a peanut butter mousse for dessert.

Congratulations to both teams for their successful performances at the ProStart competitions!
