PCTI Hosts NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge!

Students from Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) recently competed in the exciting NASA Hunch Culinary Challenge for the NASA International Space Station!

In this annual challenge sponsored by the NASA Hunch Space Program, PCTI students competed against four other schools from across the tri-state area as they created meals for astronauts to enjoy while at the International Space Station. Among the schools participating were PCTI, Ulster Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), Council Rock High School South, North Montico Technical Career Center, and Windsor High School. All teams showcased their delicious creations, which were designed to meet NASA’s annual theme of “Ethnic Entrées”. An esteemed panel of judges comprised of chefs from renowned restaurants and the prestigious American Culinary Federation as well as NASA representatives evaluated the entrées presented by the student teams.

Student participants rigorously researched, developed and created a dish for astronauts in space that meets the standards provided by NASA HUNCH officials and the Johnson Food Lab Scientists. The ten highest- scoring teams from across the United States will proceed to the national level competition in Houston at the Johnson Space Center. The winning team will be announced in April, and their dish will be included on the menu for astronauts at the International Space Station!
