STEM Academy Holds First Advisory Committee Meeting

For the very first time, the newly established STEM Academy facilitated an Advisory Committee Meeting to represent each of the Academy’s three STEM career and technical education programs of biomedical and life sciences, computer science and engineering.

Comprised of industry experts, business partners, college representatives, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers and counselors, the committees will give guidance on industry developments and innovative educational approaches and provide crucial information on the needs of the evolving global marketplace.

The committees gathered on November 21st for member introductions, a tour of the state-of-the-art STEM facility and CTE laboratories, and to review the programs’ current scope and sequence. Attendees also discussed emerging trends and the importance of developing critical skills for each career pathway.

Upholding the mission to advise, assist and advocate, the Advisory Committees seek to provide graduates of the STEM Academy with opportunities to develop crucial workplace skills and earn relevant academic and technical credentials to succeed in college and career.

Moving forward, the Advisory Committees will reconvene in the upcoming months to plan executable student opportunities for each of the STEM career pathways.

“A special thank you to all members of the Advisory Committees for a very productive first meeting,” said Joaquim Johnson, Principal of the STEM Academy. “We are eager to continue our collaboration to foster a growth mindset in our students and position them for success as they pursue their future goals.”
