PCTI Student Inducted into AAUW Girls Hall of Fame

Wayne, NJ – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – The Greater Wayne Area (GWA) Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has chosen Alysha Acosta of Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI) as one of four young women to be inducted into their Girls Hall of Fame. The honor was received in light of Alysha’s Passion Project, “The Trauma Lives On.”

Her project takes a long hard look at the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and raises awareness for a cause that’s near and dear to her heart. Alysha’s brother served in the army and after returning from Afghanistan, he was diagnosed with PTSD. Her passion project sought to answer the causes of PTSD, research organizations that provide helpful services, and sought ways to manage the disorder. Alysha also organized a book drive to bring joy to the family of services members.

She was recognized by the local chapter of the AAUW with a ceremony that honored both her family commitment and her dedication of working with soldiers.

The AAUW is known for breaking through barriers for women and girls by means of advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research, as well as celebrating the accomplishments of innovative young women.

Congratulations to Alysha Acosta on being inducted into the much respected AAUW Girls Hall of Fame and for truly making a difference in the lives of those in her community and beyond.
