February Athletes of the Month

Justyn Hall and Alexa Stoepker

Congratulations to Justyn Hall and Alexa Stoepker, February’s Athletes of the Month!

Justyn Hall is a first year varsity letter winner and a boys sabre captain who:

As a junior, he helped lead the Boys Bulldogs Fencing team to its first two wins over Passaic Valley and Teaneck High School in the program’s inaugural season. During that first season, Justyn anchored the boys sabre team and managed an overall season record of 20 wins in 36 bout experiences. The sabre weapon, known for its aggression and balance of speed, footwork and technique, was the perfect weapon of choice for Justyn’s skill set. During the course of the season, Justyn displayed a desire to excel at this new sport and managed to secure four wins at the prestigious Centrulo Invitational Tournament. On Sunday January 28, 2018, he secured eight wins at the District 5 NJSIAA State Tournament, making the finals and finishing in sixth place overall in the District 5 Sabre-Weapon. During that amazing district performance, Justyn defeated a two-time state champion twice before he was eliminated from the tournament, thus proving that for this Bulldog the term “novice” has little restraint. He is member of the School of Engineering Technology and is enrolled in Project Lead the Way. Justyn has a current GPA of 3.2 and ranks in the top half of his graduating class. We wish to congratulate Justyn and the entire Boys Bulldog Fencing team for their amazing first season!

Alexa Stoepker is a first year varsity letter winner and an overall team captain who:

As a junior, she helped lead the Lady Bulldogs Fencing team to its first two wins over Passaic Valley and West Milford High School in this the program’s inaugural season. During that first season, Alexa anchored the girls sabre team, managing an overall season record of 18 wins in 36 bout experiences. The sabre weapon, known for its aggression and balance of speed, footwork and technique, was the perfect weapon of choice for Alexa’s skill set. During the course of the season, Alexa displayed her knack for quickly assimilating to the new sport. She managed to secure three wins at the prestigious Centrulo Invitational Tournament and on Sunday January 28, 2018, she secured five wins at the District 5 NJSIAA State Tournament. Alexa made the finals and finished in seventh place overall in District 5 Sabre. On Friday, February 9, 2018 at the PCCA County Tournament, Alexa led the Lady Bulldogs Fencing team to a third place overall county finish -an amazing feat for a first year program finishing third out of the now seven PCCA Girls Fencing teams. During the County Tournament, Alexa had five wins with only one loss. Unfortunately, that loss came in the Sabre Finals, but her effort earned her 2nd Team All-County Honors in the PCCA Girls Fencing-Sabre Weapon. As member of the School of Education and Human Services, Alexa has a current GPA of 3.5 and ranks in the top third of her graduating class. We wish to congratulate Alexa and the entire Lady Bulldogs Fencing team for their amazing first season!
