Congratulations to swimmers Sophia Ciaravino and Daniel Castro, December’s Athletes of the Month!
Sophia Ciaravino a four-year varsity starter who:
Is a dynamic swimmer, strong leader, and a captain of the Girls Swim team. She has had an outstanding start to her senior year and is a dominant part of the team. Sophia has been a beacon of motivation for her teammates and over the past three seasons, has contributed greatly to their current 6-1 record. As an influential leader, Sophia has guided the PCTI Girls Swim team to first-time victories against both Wayne Hills and Hackensack High School. She currently holds the PCTI record for the 50 Yard Freestyle and is on the Record Holding 200-Medley Relay, 200-Freestyle Relay and 400-Freestyle Relay teams. This season, she has competed in seven meets and has proven to be very versatile as a sprinter (competing and taking first place in the 50 and 100-Free) and in swimming distance (the 200 and 500-Free, taking first place in each event). Outside of dual meet competition, Sophia has achieved All-League, as well as All County Honors (for the past three seasons) and looks to repeat these accolades during her senior year.
Daniel Castro is a three-year varsity starter who:
Is a pivotal leader and a captain of the PCTI Boys Swim Dynasty “back to back” winning league. The team has won county and state sectional championships in the 2015 and 2016 seasons and has captured their third consecutive PCCA County Swim Championship this year by completing the “3-Peat.” Daniel is a versatile swimmer who anchors the Bulldogs’ 200-medley relay, 200-free relay (currently part of the PCTI 200-free record holding relay) and the 400-free relay in most of the teams’ dual meets. Daniel was also part of the relay team to qualify for the "Meet of Champions" in the 2016 season. This tremendous feat marked PCTI’s first appearance in this exclusive NJSIAA championship meet, from which only a handful of the state’s top swimmers get a chance to compete. Daniel and his teammates have recently qualified for the 2017 State Meet of Champions in the 200-free relay, thereby continuing their reign of excellence. Outside of dual meet competition, Daniel has achieved All-League, as well as All County Honors in the past two seasons and looks to repeat these accolades in this his senior year.
