Bulldog SpotlightSarah GomezSarah Gomez is a four-year varsity starter who is a dynamic swimmer, strong leader, and a Captain for the Girls Swimming Team this year. She has been having an outstanding start to her senior year as she is a dominant part of the team. She has earned first team all-county and all-league honors throughout her high school career. Sarah is one of the most versatile swimmers on the team, able to compete in every event. She places in the top 2 regularly in every event she swims. She anchors the Medley Relay which is rarely beaten. Sarah was highlighted as a freshman by northjersey.com as a swimmer to watch when she led the Bulldogs to their first ever win over powerhouse, Ridgewood, and she has not slowed down since. Sarah is a key contributor in every meet and her versatility will be crucial to clinching wins this season. This season she looks to firmly etch her name to the school’s record book as she attempts to improve her individual and team relay records. Sarah, a resident of Paterson, is a student-athlete at the STEM Academy studying in the Biomedical & Life Sciences discipline. The Athletic department would like to wish Sarah and the entire Lady Bulldogs Swim team the best in the 2021-2022 season. Charlie JamesCharlie James is a four-year varsity starter who is a dominating swimmer and a leader for the PCTVS Boys Swim Team. Charlie is a big part of the success that the team has experienced over the past three seasons. Charlie consistently contributes points in all his events in every dual meet, and he demonstrates an amazing level of integrity and sportsmanship in the pool. In his PCTVS swimming career, Charlie has earned All-County and All-League honors for the past two years in the 100 Breast and the 200 Free Relay. Charlie, a resident of Paterson, is a student-athlete in the School of Construction Technology. The Athletic department would like to wish Charlie and the entire Bulldogs Swim team the best in the 2021-2022 season. Mahek Shah
Mahek Shah is one of the most personable and outgoing students at PCTVS – she’s funny, witty, and extremely charming. The Clifton native and Engineering student has an incredible GPA of 4.479 and ranks in the top three percent of her class. Mahek credits this achievement to all of her hard work and dedication and will use this honor to inspire and push herself even further, “It gives me a boost of motivation to keep trying harder because now I know working hard can definitely pay off.”
But Mahek doesn’t just keep this motivation to herself, she is often meeting and speaking to underclassmen and giving them advice about navigating the school/social life balance, which is never an easy task. “I was lucky enough to learn how to balance my time and always want to pay that forward whenever I can.” While here on campus Mahek is involved in many school activities. In 2020 she was a STEM Expo Top 5 Finalist, which is no easy feat. She’s been a member of the PCTVS Book Club since freshman year and is now the Co-President. Mahek is also a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, Dance Club, Sign Language Club, and is a Teacher’s Assistant at the STEM Saturday Academy. When not in school Mahek likes to read, bike and dance, and is also a teacher and assistant teacher at AUM Dance Creations. She also volunteers at the Jain Center of New Jersey with food and clothing drives. Mahek’s future goals are to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology and make a breakthrough in the aerospace field so that other women are inspired to do the same and level the playing field in a male-dominated industry. Mahek has some valuable advice and words of wisdom for current and incoming students, “Talk to other students and make friends! Everyone is trying to figure it out at the same time. Deborah Medina
When you meet Deborah Medina, the first thing you notice about this Paterson native is her vibrant personality. She’s well spoken, there is passion behind her words, and she has a signature smile to match - even under her mask you can see she is smiling! The Academy of Finance student has a lot to smile about lately, “This is an amazing honor, and I am so excited!”
Deborah’s current GPA is a remarkable 4.33, ranking her in the top one percent of her class. She is always busy both in and out of the classroom. While at PCTVS, Deborah wears many different hats as a member of FBLA, Student Council, Co-Vice President of the Environmental Science Club, SkillsUSA, Class of 2022 Representative, National Honor Society, and World Language National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Sign Language Club, President of Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, and as an active member of NJ Girls State, Deborah had the role of Councilwoman. When away from campus Deborah is just as busy. She is a cadet of the New Jersey Law Enforcement Explore Academy – Paterson Post 1, and as a Co-Youth Pastor at Jesus the Messiah Church. In addition, she also loves to spend time with her friends and cook with her sister. Deborah’s future goals are to attend either Northeastern University in Boston or George Washington University in Washington, DC, attain a Master’s in Criminal Justice, and become an FBI Agent, which is a goal she has wanted to achieve since she was six years old. Deborah has wise words of advice for her fellow students, “Keep track of all your work, assignments, and practice time management. Being able to balance work and life is essential to creating a healthy mindset and achieving all of the successes you desire!” Congratulations to this hardworking Bulldog – you have made everyone at PCTVS proud! Julia Bartoszewicz
Julia Bartoszewicz does it all! She dances, she swims, and she’s always on the move. She has learned how to balance athletics, academics, and her personal life to get to where she is today. “It has been a really long and overwhelming four years, but I would not change it for the world because it has taught me to never give up and keep moving forward.” Julia’s hard work and resilience has definitely paid off.
As a member of the School of Performing Arts with a focus on Dance, Julia is constantly moving. She is an outstanding swimmer on the PCTVS Swim Team where she is currently ranked number 1 in New Jersey for the 100-yard backstroke in the 17-18 age group. She continues to maintain an impressive GPA of 4.229 and a class rank in the top six percent. But that’s not all she does when she’s on campus. Julia is a member of the National Honor Society, President of the National Honor Society of Dance Arts, World Language Honor Society, and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. She is also captain of the Varsity Lady Bulldogs Swim Team, Student Council Club member, Student Ambassador, a December Athlete of the Month as a Sophomore, part of the Dance Ensemble Club, and a Class of 2022 Representative. While away from her studies, Julia volunteers as an Assistant Preschool Teacher and Bookshelf Organizer at the Polish School in Garfield. She is also a CPR Certified Lifeguard, and loves to listen to music, cook, bake, go to the gym, and hang out with her friends and family. Julia’s future goals are to attend either the University of Pittsburgh or Harvard. She plans to compete in Division 1 swimming, while also pursuing a Bachelors’ Degree in Health Sciences to become a Physician Assistant specializing in Pediatrics. When asked if she had any advice for current or incoming students Julia replied, “My advice is to be yourself and not worry so much because in the end, everything will work out – you just need to have trust and faith in yourself that everything will turn out okay.” Congratulations Julia! Dishant Alay Gandhi
Dishant Alay Gandhi of Passaic recalls being a freshman and walking past the Student of the Month bulletin board in the main hallway every morning, “I remember thinking about how their journey and achievements would cheer me up and push me further to strive for greatness.” He is now a member of that elite club and remarked, “It’s a rewarding feeling and an honor to carry this title.”
Dishant is PCTI’s November Student of the Month. He is now a senior in the School of Applied Engineering where his current GPA is 4.401 and he ranks in the top one percent in his class. Here at school, he is a SeaPerch team captain for the Engineering Club, as well as a member of the Astronomy and Environmental Clubs, and World Language Honor Society. Away from campus Dishant likes to play video games and soccer with friends. He also volunteers at St. Mary’s Hospital and participates in community food drives. Dishant’s future goals are to attend either Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, New York University, or the University of Pennsylvania, where he looks to earn an MBA from one of their respective business schools. His goal is become a financial analyst/advisor for a major corporation such as Berkshire Hathaway or Morgan Stanley. When asked if he considers himself a role model to other students, Dishant humbly replied, “I would consider myself to be a role model to some because of my tenaciousness, my deep sense of confidence in myself, and the love I have in the things I do.” Congratulations to this ambitious young man - you have the heart of a lion and you have made your friends, family, and all of us here at PCTVS proud! Roselyn Martinez
Roselyn Martinez, a Passaic native, is a PCTI November Student of the Month. She is an outstanding academic student in the School of Education and Human Services where she studies Child Development. “I can truly say that I’m happy and proud of my hard work and dedication because it is such a big accomplishment to achieve student of the month.”
She sets some very high goals for herself which is reflected in her current GPA of 4.456. Roselyn also ranks in the top 1% of her class and validates her success through a study method she learned here at PCTVS called The Pomodoro Technique. While at PCTVS, Roselyn is member of the Future Educators Association, Gifted and Talented, 2021-2022 Girls State, as well as National Honor Society. When she’s not in school, Roselyn loves to spend quality time destressing with friends and family. She likes to paint with her younger sister and go shopping with her mom the most. She also enjoys going to the gym to work out with her friend and going on a walk to the park with her mom and sisters. Roselyn’s future goals are to attend college at either Northeastern University or Yale as her favorites, but would also be open to Montclair State, Ramapo, or Rutgers University where she would pursue a major in International Business and a minor in Sociology. She has a passion for learning about other cultures and languages, so she wants to travel the world to expand her knowledge and perspective. Career-wise her dream is to work at Walt Disney or in the hospitality industry at the corporate level to ensure that people get to make inspiring memories. When asked if she considers herself a role model to other students, Roselyn unpretentiously replied, “I would consider myself a role model. I’m involved within the school, I work hard towards my classes and extracurriculars, and I’m always trying to grow as a person.” Congratulations to Roselyn – your hard work will definitely pave the way to follow your dreams! Duaa Raza
Duaa Raza of Wayne is one of the most highly intelligent and academically successful students to grace the campus at PCTVS. Her ability to communicate, her gracious personality, and her insatiable thirst for knowledge and learning has made her a very well-known name throughout both schools, and she is the STEM Academy November Student of the Month.
Duaa is an extraordinary member of STEM’s Biomedical and Life Sciences pathway where she currently holds a 4.478 GPA and ranks in the top 3% of her class. When asked how it felt to be Student of the Month, Duaa replied, “This is a great honor! It’s amazing! It definitely makes me feel grateful to attend a school where putting in the work academically is applauded; and it definitely motivates me to continue!” While on campus, Duaa is President of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Vice President of Gifted and Talented Academic Quiz Bowl, STEM Expo Co-Founder and Institutional Review Board Committee member, STEM Advisory Committee- Biomedical Student Representative, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Honor Society member, New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences Scholar, STEAM Tank Competition winner, 1st Place Best In Show Award in the 2021 STEM Academy STEM EXPO, Saturday STEM Academy Teaching Assistant, and so many more! In her free time, Duaa loves to read, hike, paint, kickbox, watch movies, partake in random acts of kindness, volunteer to advance healthcare and educational accessibility for marginalized groups, as well as memorize the lyrics from the Hamilton musical. She also organized the Covid-19 Initiative Campaign and donated $700 to a local hospital during the pandemic to help healthcare workers fight Covid-19. Duaa’s future goals are to attend a college or university that allows her to pursue her interests in research and medicine and become a physician scientist. “Goals evolve as you change and grow, so I can’t wait to see where my path leads! And along the way I will always remember to stop and smell the roses!” No matter where Duaa goes or what she does, we know her path will lead to greatness! Victoria MistrettaThree-year varsity starter who as a senior helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to another successful girls Volleyball season. On the personal level, Vic has been nominated to 1st Team All-County in her junior and senior year, in her junior season she was selected as the NJTAC most valuable player award. In the 2021-2022 season, Vic’s stats include 37 Kills, 11 Blocks, 59 Digs and 300 Assists. As the Bulldogs #1 setter, Vic eclipsed the 500 assists mark in early October to become the program’s first-ever volleyball student-athlete to achieve the tremendous milestone of 500 career assists. She finished her Bulldog Volleyball career with 624 assists, demonstrating that she truly is an amazing setter and a valued teammate critical to the teams’ overall success. In the classroom, Vic embodies the role as “student-athlete”, as a student in the STEM Academy studying in the Biomedical & Life Sciences discipline, Vic maintains an amazing 4.595 GPA. Vic is currently weighing her options with post-high school plans, but with her hard work “on the court” and “in the classroom”, Vic will be able to continue her academic and athletic career at the University/College of her choice. We wish Vic, and the entire Lady Bulldogs Volleyball team congratulations on an amazing 2021 season. Troy MiltonTwo-year varsity starter who as a senior helped lead the Bulldogs through an amazing 2021 season, with a record of 8 wins and 3 losses and an advancement to the NJSIAA North 1 Group 5 Championship game. Troy is being acknowledge for his defensive prowess. Troy is a superb pass defender and runner-stopper from his defensive back position, his energy and enthusiasm is always on display, and he truly is at the heart of the Bulldog’s defense. This year. Troy is one of the team’s’ leading tacklers with 62 first-hits, 40 assisted tackles for a team total of 102 tackles through the first eleven games. He has also caused a fumble and recovered a fumble, leading a stingy defense that is giving up an average of less than 15 points a game. As a member of the School of Construction Technology, Troy is currently weighing his options with college and career choices and looks to increase his possibilities with a successful season this Winter with Basketball We wish Troy and the entire Bulldog Football team all the best in the NJSIAA Finals and their quest to return to MetLife stadium. Brandon ParraThree-year varsity starter who as a senior helped lead the Bulldogs through an amazing 2021 season, with a record of 8 wins and 3 losses and an advancement to the NJSIAA North 1 Group 5 Championship game. Brandon is being acknowledge for his offensive prowess. On offense he has anchored an offensive line which has shown toughness, grit, and determination. The Bulldogs don’t try to hide the fact that when they line-up, they are going to run the ball- through you or over you. The work of the offensive/defensive line is pivotal to the team’s success. Brandon plays both sides of the ball but is a key component to an offensive unit that this season has over 3000+ yards total-offense with 2300+ yards rushing, 700+ yards passing and is averaging 20+ points per game. As a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice, Brandon is currently weighing his options with college and career choices and looks to increase his possibilities with successful seasons in both Winter and Spring Track. We wish Brandon and the entire Bulldog Football team all the best in the NJSIAA Finals and their quest to return to MetLife stadium. Emma LetiziaEmma Letizia is a four-year varsity letter winner who as a senior has had a tremendous season as a leader of the girls’ soccer team helping the squad to improve to a 10-8 overall record and earn a share of the 2021 Big North Liberty Divisional Championship. Coach Kiernan describes Emma as the team’s core-defender and a big time “playmaker” throughout any zone on the field. At this stage of the season, Emma has two (2) goals with seven (7) assists and has helped the Lady Bulldogs earn a respectable seed in the PCCA county tournament and advance to the NJTAC Tech Tournament semifinals. The squad has also earned a top seed in the NJSIAA state-playoffs, they will have a home game which will be hosted on Tuesday 11/2/21 as the Lady Bulldogs take on Lady Bengals of Bloomfield. In the classroom, Emma embodies her role as student-athlete, she is a member of the Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and maintains a 3.6 GPA. Emma is currently weighing her options with post-high school plans, but she knows that she would like to continue her academic and athletic career at either the University of Scranton, Eastern Connecticut State or Farleigh Dickinson University. We wish Emma, and the entire Lady Bulldogs Soccer team, all the best for the remainder of the 2021 fall season. Joshua VirgilJoshua Virgil is a two-year varsity starter who as a senior has had a tremendous season as one of the captains and a stand-out, offensive leader of the Boys Soccer Team. As a forward, Josh has proved to be a staple in the transition game and the Bulldogs overall offensive “attack”, his speed and ball-possession skill keeps most defenses on their heels. At this stage of the season, Josh has twenty-one (21) goals with four (4) assists and has helped the Bulldogs earn a respectable seed in the PCCA county tournament and advance to the NJTAC Tech Tournament finals. The squad has also earned a solid seed in the NJSIAA state-playoffs which will begin on Monday 11/1/21 as the Bulldogs venture to the roof-top to take on the Soaring Eagles of Union City High School. Academically, Joshua is a student in the STEM Academy studying in the Biomedical & Life Sciences discipline. Joshua is currently weighing his options with his post high school educational/career plans. We wish Josh and the entire Boys Soccer team, all the best in the remainder of the fall 2021 season. |
